ifc Midnight has acquired North and Latin American rights to director Jon Wright’s sci-fi comedy Grabbers. The film had its world premiere in the Park City at Midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival in January. IFC plans a release later this year.
Richard Coyle, Ruth Bradley, Russell Tovey, Lalor Roddy, David Pearse and Bronagh Gallagher star in the story of a sleepy Irish fishing village whose only defense against an attack by bloodsucking sea aliens is becoming very drunk. Kevin Lehane wrote the script.
Tracy Brimm and Kate Myers of Forward Films produced along with Martina Niland of Samson Films, Eduardo Levy and James Martin of High Treason Productions and Piers Tempest of The Salt Company.
“ Grabbers is a great time at the movies and an ingenious update of the classic monster movie,” said Sundance Selects/IFC Films president Jonathan Sehring.
Sundance Selects/IFC Films exec Arianna Bocco negotiated the deal with Samantha Horley of The Salt Company and Jay Cohen of Gersh on behalf of the filmmakers.
