Joy Wilkinson


Joy is an award-winning writer, working across film, theatre, TV and radio. She was selected for the 2014 Guiding Lights mentoring scheme and was shortlisted for the 2013 BAFTA Breakthrough Brits. She has several feature projects in development, including two thrillers, a comedy and a sci-fi.

Joy’s work for TV includes BBC1’s critically-acclaimed serial Nick Nickleby, a five-part modernisation of the Dickens classic, starring Adrian Dunbar, Linda Bassett and Andrew Simpson. Joy is a graduate of the BBC Writers Academy and is currently developing original TV dramas with independent producers.

In theatre, Joy’s work has won the Verity Bargate Award and been shortlisted for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and Brian Way Award. Her plays have been published and widely produced at venues including the Tricycle Theatre and Trafalgar Studios in the West End, and on UK and US tours.

Joy wrote the English adaptation of the thriller Borgen: Outside the Castle (5 ×45”), a companion to the hit Danish TV drama, broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 2013. She works extensively in radio, across adaptations and original dramas.
